You appear to have changed everything except the faulty part I am at a loss to understand why.

Hi, you could be the light at the end of my tunnel.

I have the exact same problem you had in july. I have replaced battery, altinator, pump and still not working. nothing showing on diagnostics either so it must be a factory fault. Please tell me you have your vectra sorted out and i would be very greatful if you could inform me where the fault lies!!!

Hello,

power steering has been fine up to a couple of weeks ago when the nights drew in and started using the lights, steering packed in again and has not come back on. Going into vauxhall again at the weekend as last time i asked for advice their head engineer had never heard of the problem ( must be my imagination ). Watch dog featured the vauxhall meriva packing in so they now know there a problems for lots of vauxhall drivers. maybe this time they could be bothered to look after there customers. Will let you know how I get on

Vauxhall's are not my thing but this set up usually has a steering pump control unit that looks after the pump and if the system voltage drops too low it shuts the pump down rather than the engine ECU dying and leaving you stranded. Surely Vauxall are aware of this. Regards Peter

A similar problem out here in Spain with intermittent power steering problems on an Opel Vectra C 1.9 CDTi. 2005 model. It can go for a month and no problems and once switched off it disappears providing I wait for a couple of minutes. However the big question is when will the problem return again - it has its own mind!Does anyone have an answer to this problem (Opel are equally as reticent to admit to the problem!).Replacing the power steering unit is not the answer. Is there another component that could cause this problem. Is there anyone out there that can help?

We are a power steering specialist company and have had various issues with Vectra C power steering, usually it is the pump that fails, the control unit is integral within the pump, the only other component that has any bearing on the pump operation is the angle sensor that is fitted into the top of the power steering rack, this senses you moving the steering and gives a signal to the pump to speed up and provide assistance, these sensors can also go faulty.

You do need to make sure your charging system is working correctly as the pumps require 14v feed from the alternator to work properly.

electro-hydraulic steering apparently, so the best of all technology. Hope ya got it sorted, the Corsa C has an electronic steering column that costs a lot to fix when it goes wrong.

Oh well thats another car off the new purchase list!
