This is my problem, yesterday the website would not let me type in my query!
My car, 05 plate, is serviced by an independent garage, not Skoda dealer. Recently I got a yellow warning light indicating "partial failure of power steering".The diagnosis by my garage is that the complete "electro mechanical steering unit" needs to be replaced a cost of £550 plus fitting plus VAT! Major bill.
Whilst manual says "with partial failure, steering forces can be greater" I can feel no difference at all in steering force. I have felt a slight vibration on the steering wheel when going through the 70 MPH speed range. Could this be the fault of the steering unit? At present I am happy driving with the steering as it is, but need to get rid of the warning light!
Might a SKODA dealer be able to be more specific as to what the fault is ? Would they have a cheaper solution? Any ideas ? Not many problems on VW electro mechanical steering units show on this Forum, they must be fairly trouble free normally?
