VW Polo - Need help with choosing engine oil - kfilms
Hi,

I have a vw polo, 1.4, auto, w reg, 60k. Since I've owed it, I've been using 10w40 semi synthetic oil (as recommended), its now time to change the oil again and I've been looking at various oil manufactures websites for recommendations, I'm getting a vast array of recommended grades of oil, from 5w30 fully synthetic, 15w40 to 15w50 and of course 10w40 semi synthetic..... and now I'm confused which ones really are accurate.

The car is now 10 years old and because of that, and probably poor maintenance prior to me owning it, the engine can be noisy on start up in cold or hot weather (until it is well warmed up), despite using engine cleaners etc at oil change. I thought I'd try a suitable oil of a different varosity, but have no idea which one is compatible, any suggestions/ advice to reduce engine wear and noisy, prices, sellers etc?

Many thanks,

Stick with a 10/40 like Castrol Magnatec and an OEM Filter. Regards Peter

And don't use cleaners thats why its noisy at start up they do more damage than they cure.
