Silverstone - top

This Saturday morning will be travelling on hols from Nottingham to Ferry at Southampton. looks like my TomTom will take us very close to the Silverstone Circuit. I see Silverstone are hosting the Grand Prix this sunday and the track open all weekend. should I stay clear of the area on Saturday or is it just Sunday thats likely to be busy. Or anyone familar with an alternative route.

Any help much appreciated.

Do as I did a couple of weeks ago. After hearing the M1/A43 junction was closed on my trip from Leeds to Southampton I needed an alternative.

Leave M1 at junction 21 for the M69, continue onto A46 Coventry bypass all the way to the M40. I found it a better route than the A43 and it wasn't much further - the M69 and A46 are all three lane/dual carriageway and don't see much traffic (who wants to go to Cov!).

The Superbikes were on at Silverstone on our return and I did the same route in reverse. Did Southampton Leeds in less than 4 hours with a 20 minute stop.

You won't be able to travel on the A43 to go past Silverstone this weekend unless you are attending the Grand Prix.I would go M1,M42,M40(hopefully should still be ok past J10 then A34 at Bicester all the way down to Southampton.

I've done that route once, it adds about 12 miles to the trip I posted earlier.
