1.6 FSI Petrol - VW Golf 1.6 FSI - hjmou

Can anyone advise what the normal replacement time/milage should be for the disc pads on this model?

Mine is 4 years 5 months old, has been driven very carefully and done 50,000 miles.

VW as saying that all disc pads need replacing and the rear discs also need replacing.

Total cost about £400.00!!

Any comments on this?

The replacement time varies depending on how a car is driven, the car, materials used for the brake pads etc.

Some people & cars will eat threw a set of brake pads in less than 5k miles, others will last for up to 100k miles. Brake discs will wear over time, if/when they become too thin due to wear or they become warped they will require replacing.

It's worth getting a 2nd opinion before proceeding.

My 1.6 FSI needed new pads and discs all round at 35K. Depends on usage - if it's left standing around for long periods the discs will corrode quicker.

Suggest you try an independent - you should half the cost.

Hope this helps.
