When should I change the timing belt on a 2006 VW Passat (2.0 TDi)?

I had an '06 Touran, same engine, and from memory, VW recommended 40K mls. or 3yrs., whichever came first.

I have a 2006 Passat 2.0 TDi (140) with DSG and had the belt replaced when I bought the car. It had done 65,000 miles.
It says in the service book that replacement is at 80k (some VW engines are 120k!) !) I erred on the side of caution but 40k sounds over cautious to me.

I too have a 2006 Passat 1.9 and the dealer was requesting a change at 40k. We have not even done 40k in 5 years. So, exceeding their timing, but not their mileage.
