Assuming it is not a ECU fault and the Servo Controlled Throttle motor is not stuck ( I think the MGF has one ) and all the temp sensors are a live then an air leak the engine side of the throttle butterfly may be your problem. Regards Peter

We had a similar problem on our nissan bluebird for a little bit till we found out the problem. Look in the manual if you have one, for a "fault finding computer, emisions control unit" or something like that..with the nissan it was a little box under the passenger seat with a screw on it. this adjusted the idle speed, but please warm the car up before you change it otherwise you end up with a car that cuts out under 1000rpm. i have to put my hands up and admit i was guilty with that one but its a mistake you make once!

Only happens when hot??

It'll be a sticking throttle body, easily cured by replacing the oringinal plastic body with a new alloy body.

Common problem.
