Toyota Carina - Throttle segment adjustment - Gregory II

Throttle segment

Can someone clarify:

With regards to the Throttle cable, I used the Haynes manual to adjust it but it is really confusing (for me anyway)

The manual says:
1. With both adjusting nuts loose, check that the inner cable is slack. Unscrew the nut nearest the throttle valve segment several times.
2. Tighten the nut furthest from the segment until the segment just starts to move, then back off the nut 1.5-2 turns to provide the correct amount of play. Tighten the locknut to retain the ferrule in this position.
3. Check the throttle valve segment opens fully and returns smoothly to its stop.

Question 1: there is only one adjusting nut. The only problem is it is a screw. Am I adjusting the correct screw.
Question 2: does this refer to the inner cable (instruction 1) I cannot see any other ‘slack’ cables.
Question 3: which is the nut furthest from the segment, i.e. where is it located?

Thanks in advance for your input, Greg

Could someone clarify on this point please? I am sure it is really straight forward.

Also, where can I download a service manual for this car, i.e. the one that the dealers refer to. I always liked dealer manuals as they have a lot more diagrams than the Haynes manual.

Thanks

You must be looking at the wrong part if as you say it is a screw.

1. The two nuts referred to are those that are holding the accelerator cable at the point where it emerges from the protective cabling. The cable then folds round the throttle 'half moon' affair a few inches away.

2. The 'inner' cable is the actual accelerator cable.

3. The nut furthest from 'the segment' would be the nut on the left ie drivers side of the car.

Hope this helps.
