Ford Focus - Humming sound from underside of vehicle - willow

Hi! I have a 2002 Focus 5 door hatch with 91000 miles on the clock.

I have recently noticed a humming/droning sound which seems to eminate from somewhere under the vehicle. It is more noticeable when taking left hand bends, or if there are several people in the car, when it can become quite intrusive in the cabin. I have also noticed, that if I depress the clutch, the noise drops away - weird!

The nearside wheel bearings have been replaced twice in 12 months. The first set apparently and according to the mechanic who replaced them, were defective...mmm!

So, ladies and gents, any ideas? Before I give the car over to Ford, where they will charge me £50 just to say good morning.

I would say offside front wheel bearing except for the going off when you dip the clutch bit, unless that's because you are taking the load off it.

Thanks PeterN

I am begining to think it may have something to do with the exhaust. It is the original unit 91000 miles old. Having said that, it went through the MOT last month with no problem.
