bhp figures are not the important ones for a Diesel towing vehicle it's torque that you need.
I believe the model you are referring to is the Shogun Sport previously Challenger, the Shogun itself is bigger with a 3.2 Diesel.
Nothing wrong with the smaller model, it's essentially an estate car version of the L200 pick up and they get used for pulling all sorts.
The Diesel produces 177lbft torque at 2000rpm which sounds adequate if not stump pulling to me, and it will pull the box fine but won't be breaking any land speed records, do check towing weights (handbook?) if 2 nags are going to be pulled.
Landcruiser LC would be a better tow vehicle having some 40/50% higher torque from it's 3 litre Diesel, indeed Mitsi's full size 3.2 Shogun would be better too, but both will push that purchase price up considerably and are much bigger and heavier vehicles, and most will come with good auto boxes which in my towing experience makes life rosy.
I believe both are rated at 3.5 tons towing capability. Depends just how much towing time compared with more normal use involved. If it makes any difference ISTR the Sport is RWD normally with 4WD being only useable off road or snow/slippery on road, whereas full size Shogun and Landcruiser are full time 4WD.
Why when we edit a post does the whole post get closed up into one unreadable paragraph?
