It hasn't gone anywhere. It's under Reviews in the main navigation. Selecting a manufacturer and model is now done by clicking the links/logos on the left.

And why does the background for car reviews alternate between grey and white?

The Skoda Octavia one does anyway. Maybe it is just my old eyes. ;>(
