Ah from the other side of the fence it's not so clear.
I posted here a few months ago my Journey in North Devon in my car transporter truck, i don't use sat nav and probably never will, my first drop was in Barnsataple and my next drop in Minehead, now Porlock though not mentioned anywhere on the maps is a no go for large stuff so i travelled back down the A361 and took the left turn A396 at Tiverton for Dunster...seemed a reasonable route.
Got as far as the first turning for Bampton and low and behold a sign helpfully informing me of 18ton weight and 40ft length limits in Dunster, oh joy.
So it's fairly wide there so i sat with me map pondering just what to do and a nice chap in an Xtrail pulled up and put me right...sent me through Bampton and via Upton to come out 4 or so miles east of Dunster at washford on the A39.
Now the week before i went through Bampton the Fair had been there blocking the main road, had this been that week i'd have been reversing several miles down B roads with a semi loaded bendy car carrier...who would have been to blame if i'd have got stuck?
Unless you've been to these out of the way places with an artic you can't possibly imagine what it's like, i don't know why the driver in this video couldn't have reversed his route in reverse, maybe steep hills prevented it, i couldn't have reversed up some of the hills i drove down on my little adventure after upton, lack of traction would have scuppered things.
There but for the grace etc.
