Hi,
The trim surround pops off then the unit slides out. If you've got the high functioning mid (what a name) i struggled like mad to fit a new unit in. Couldn't get the ISO connector block to sit above the new stereo (only space there is for it, radio hole not deep enough).
Had to unscrew the HVAC vent with the alarm LED on top of the dash, that allowed me to get my hands behind the vents to push them out (there's a fiddly connector plug to disconnect first). Also had to chop up an old tesco clubcard into 4 long thin strips and insert between dash and forward facing hvac vents to stop the liittle spring clips holding the vents into the dash.
Then was able to push the front hvac vents out of the dash. Finally there's some sound deadening material to move to the side but because its so thick it really hampers access.
Now you can get one hand in the top to hold the ISO connector block where you want it, while the other slides the new headunit into place.
Hope yours goes easier than mine.

Removal of the radio is easier than it looks.Pull off the volume control knob.In the recess where the knob sits is a small screwdriver slot.Using a small driver, rotate the slot 90degrees(clockwise from memory),this will release the spring loaded claws at each end of the radio and draw the radio forward.hth
