02 2.2HDi rattle noise from rear suspension area - jeremy1964
I have noticed i have a metal rattle noise from the rear suspension area when going over rough ground have checked for anything loose and found nothing obviouse. The car is a 2002 Citroen C5 2.2HDI estate, has anyone got any idea what it could be and a description where to look/remedy? Any and all help will be appreciated.

Have you checked inside the car?

I had a loose wheel brace that drove me mad because I knew it was stowed securely, until I found otherwise.

Thank you for your reply a good point but I have checked the wheel brace, the sound is alot louder when window is open which makes me think its a from under the car.

Loose exhaust mounting? Bracket gone? Rubber holder broken?

This is a well known issue on the C5 and was discovered soon after its launch. In the car-by-car breakdown HJ says...

** Rattle from rear suspension. This was originally acknowledged by Citroen UK but the fix of adding balance weights did not work. Citroen later produced a proper Mark 2 modification kit which involves changing the shock absorbers and works properly **

Check all the usual stuff like exhaust first but then I wonder if yours was ever modded and if so has the mod now failed??

Be careful here it could be the rear swinging arm bearings going !

just an up date have found the problem it was rear brake pads rattling in housing seems like the spring clips have not been put in correctly. can any one confirm the correct way these are supposed to be put in?? a picture would be good. thanks to all.
