Was killing an hour on the 'puter and looking at a well known car selling site, did some searching for dream buys. a few years back there was a local guy who blew 10 mil, and is now bust. He did the usual mega ferrarri etc, and was quoted at the time as being bored with nothing to do. His downfall was buying into a football team. Anyhow although I like cars I couldn't see myself going into six figure sums for any car no matter how good. So I looked at reasonable buys. Obviously a nice garage with a lift and nice tools would be a first buy, to keep the budget supercar nicely fettled, and goes without saying a large barrel of waterproof grease and same size brush to apply underneath as per Oilrags most sensible ideology. What I found was a nice Lotus Carlton, with a genuine 12k on the clock for 40k, and various lotus elite, both with good on-line owner sites to help keep nicely spannered. So just in case I win the big one on Friday can anyone point me in a similar direction must be below 6 fugures, discreet, and classy, no bling bling please, just class. Of course if I win, a similar will be purchased for whom who suggests the appropriate.

Mercedes-Benz R107 SL - For cruising

Ariel Atom - For fun

Audi A8 W12 - General driving (W12 to annoy green brigade)

Land Rover Discovery - For getting around the estate

Some kind of Aston Martin for me please...

Maybe a V8 Vantage, I think you can get one of them for under 100K

I am not really "into" cars in a big way, if you know what I mean, and you won't find me oohing and aahing over Ferraris, Lamboughinis and then like...but something about an Aston has always done it for me...
lotto win car (on a budget) - CraigP
Poor guy :( daily record did a thing on him not long after he won they were saying £300+ / day in interest? I'd just save up and buy stuff off the interest, £3k/10 days. t'was the record right enough...

Love the 850i suggestion above. A post '97 (alusil engine with the square exhaust tips...) is *almost* affordable as a commitment to some serious fun on the weekends even without a lotto win. Future classic...

lotto win car (on a budget) - Stuartli
No matter how much or little I'd won, I wouldn't seriously consider spending £40k on a Lotus Carlton, genuine 12k mileage or not.

Mind you I did enjoy driving one on the Lotus test track some considerable time back....

Probably an Audi A8, when I get bored of that I can get something better. There's no point getting the best thing straightaway, as you will never know such pleasure again. It would be like eating a feast until you are full and then being offered another feast.

I would also like to have a fabulous no-expense spared workshop and restore some classic cars as a hobby and be able to farm out the work such as painting to decent places.

Classic Range Rover V8 - always wanted one, and could afford one now, but I think without 6 numbers behind me the running costs would leave me in poverty very quickly.

Alpina B5 for day to day.

Porsche Cayman S, but only in the toxic green colour that you sometimes see in car mags but is not on their website. Who cares about selling it on.

Both of the above would only be bought subject to a £1m plus win.

A smaller win would result in a second hand Audi RS4 Avant.
lotto win car (on a budget) - NickS
RS4 and a Range Rover Vogue TDV8 for me

"Treat" SWMBO to an Aygo. If she's lucky.

Fazer FZ1 for my best mate, and a Phaeton for the parents.

Should come in at a nice round £100k :-).

A close friend of mine, who is loaded to say the least, doesn't drink or smoke or wear designer clothes(jeans and flip flops mostly) spent £400K in one year on cars. Its the one thing he is interested in.
A Ferrari 430 with personalised interior, Maserati Gran Tourismo S, Porsche Cayenne Turbo,
BMW M5,TVR Tuscan Race prepped track car,Mini Works cooper and an M3 convertible for the wife. The live in Butler,Housekeeper and Nanny share a provided VW Golf. None are garaged, they are for use not show.He has also had Lamborghini's Gullardo,Ferrari's 550 & 612,2 Bentley Continentals.

Sounds like he needs a fleet manager to run that lot. Full time.

Tell him I'll do it for 50k per annum.

Imagine the paperwork, remembering to tax them, MOT them, insure them, valet them etc etc.

I think my proposed rate is very reasonable, if he throws in a company provided Phaeton.

Trouble is if you go discreet you may end up with a faster version of an ordinary mass produced car.

What about a Maserati Quattroporte S?

or one of those low volume retro car makers like
www.vanwallcars.com
or a good GT40 replica?

A 4wd 2cv with a hidden supercharger to put a smile on your face.

Quite fancy a maserati ghibli cup though. And maybe an old Bentley Turbo R as it is shaped like a brick and it would be fun to have such a quick drawing room.

Not many of the modern cars make me want to buy them. Only exception is the new Skyline GTR-35 as it has the speed of most supercars without the stupid price tag. Would have to have a custom body kit that made it look less Halfords though. Lexus Soarer style maybe. Wonder if I could get it in Allegro brown.... :-D

The odd thing is that now I've got the Discovery TD5 I just want to spend a few quid geting the minor problems sorted. I can't think what else I would want.

I've driven the new Discovery last year (Series 3 I think). It was the G4 spec at the Land Rover Centre in Devon.

I would probably use the money to buy a large house with a wooded area, build an offroad course, and a decent workshop with ramps etc, keep my old 200TDI and totally replace the shell for a proper offroading set up. Nothing wrong with the chassis or mechanics.

After I sorted that out, I would probably find another 200 or 300 TDI and do the same to that.

Nice as the new Discovery was, I couldn't help feeling that all the gizmos took the skill out of offroad driving.

Jaguar XFR (or possible the V6 diesel S).

The XF is my new favourite "non exotic" car. Makes you feel good just sitting in the thing. My boss has a 3.0 V6 diesel and it's luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurvely.

Even back in the 1970s I always liked and wanted a Jensen Interceptor. Still do. They don't seem to have dated as much as most cars from that era.

Tricky. Modern car-wise, Volvo V70 whatever the top spec is.

And a MKII escort RS2000 in white with blue pinstripes, a la Doyle from the Professionals.

And a Ducati Monster with fat Termignonis.

Old thread it may be but an interesting question it still is. I’ve often thought about the contents of my 5 car post lottery win garage. It changes daily but today I’d include.

123 series Mercedes 230TE Auto - restored
Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 - restored
McLaren 570 Spider
Range Rover 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
Ford Fiesta ST3 5dr

It’ll be different tomorrow, I’m changeable like that but today this is my ideal 5 car garage.

lotto win car (on a budget) - Trilogy.

Some of mine would change daily too.

156 Sportwagon 2.0 TS

W124 E300D estate

Range Rover Autobiography - that's going to have to go, just too pretentious and a b***** to park. A Jimny would be much better.

Commodore SS-V Redline with Baillie tips

Porsche 911 Carrera

I would choose a Jensen Interceptor too. It was my dream car when I was a boy. Thirsty mechanical dinosaurs they might be, but if I had one I'd only use it occasionally and drive it sensibly. The Jensen would be metallic sky blue.

With the lotto-win money left over (from not not buying a Ferrari or Aston Martin!) I'd choose a Tesla Model 3 as my day-to-day car, which would more than compensate for the Jensen's dreadful environmental credentials. When the Tesla Model Y becomes available here, I might swap the Model 3 for one of those. The Model 3 would be red.

For outdoor adventure - camping weekends, carrying bicycles etc. I'd go for a 1990's Land Rover 110 300TDI hardtop, plus lots of spare parts (as it's a Land Rover!). The Land Rover would be dark green with a white roof.

Landcruiser 200 series, plus an unbreakable grey import 70 series LC for knocking about in.

2018 on Toyota Century for the sheer beauty of its quietly handsome design where european top line cars have become a caricuture.

So called foreign exotica or supercars do nothing for me, last Aston Martin to set my heart racing was the V8 Vantage, i took one among a full load of older metal to the classic show at NEC, in dark blue with matching polished grill inset, a wonderful car you could spend a lifetime drooling over.

A lottery win might not be enough for very special cars which are rarely for sale. I would really like the Graber bodied Duesenberg cabriolet but will just have to make do with my TR7.

Like a Mini Marcos. Might have to buy up the rights and start a company making them,

That'd make the money go away pretty quickly.

Alfa SZ for me.
Il Monstro as it was nicknamed.
Total Marmite car but I love it, with gorgeous 2.5 V6 Busso.
