Help! Been a complete muppet and put petrol in my 2.0 tdi passat (170) - put around 2 litres in and have topped up to the brim (50+ litres) with diesel as advised by my pal who is a mechanic. Have driven home (2 miles) and all seems good - now just thinking have I done the right thing? Has anyone any experience of this working ok if I keep it topped up?? All advice much appreciated - feeling a little hacked off at mo!!

There should be no effect what so ever with 2 in 50. Top up every 50 miles or so to minimise the effect. Regards Peter

Thanks Peter, I guess I'm looking for some reassurance which you have given - I'll take it out tomorrow to see whether all is well and report back in! Picking up a petrol 325 on Friday probably a good move as this is not my first time - hence the username diesel muppet!!

In the meantime, keep the revs and the speed down.
If it were mine, and knowing how expensive these systems are to repair, I would get some of the fuel drained out.
The Diesel injection system requires the lubricating qualitys of Diesel to prevent the pump/injectors from failing. It will not have the same protection with Diesel in the system.
With the Mercs, they replace everything after a misfuel. A cool 3-4K.

This is a PD engine so the electric pump runs all thetime no matter that speed you are doing and the PD injectors generate the injection pressure and are cam driven and electonically fired/timed. A bottle of Millers diesel additive may put you mind at rest. Regards Peter

Thanks for the advice Peter, what will Millers do? Will it just act as a lubricant for these parts?
