A month or so ago a fuse blew that powers the nearside rear sidelight, dashboard lights (i.e. speedo) and a few other internal smaller things like the heater control lights.
I changed the fuse but it now blows immediately as I turn on the lights!
I've tried taking out each individual bulb in the circuit but every time I turn on the lights it still blows. I fear that it might be something to do with behind the dashboard.
Anyone got any ideas what might be causing it and how I can go about fixing it.
Thanks very much!

Fault finding now any water ingress on rear lights any broken wires?
Same on switch etc.

You could have a short to earth somewhere in the wiring loom, generally, very difficult to find. The only thing that may help is a good quality meter which will read very low ohms, you can then check the resistance to earth from all the sections that don't work, the lowest resistance reading should be nearest where the short is.

No water in the clusters at all. Thanks for the info though guys.

Do you have original renault or aftermarket radio? Also is the No plate light on the same circuit.hth
|
It is the original radio. and yeah the no plate light is on the same circuit so obviously doesn't work at the moment.
In took the radio out and noticed this bare wire at the back:

Someone said this is just the earth wire and shouldn't make a difference. I have tried using insulation tape to cover it but it didn't make a difference.

The radio connector is ok.It is the earth wire.I would pull out the no.plate lamp and check the wiring behind it.hth

ahh ok, i will try this! thanks. If the wiring to the number plate light was the problem would simply taking the number plate light out, (and then the fuse not blowing) prove this? Or could it still blow the fuse regardless of whether the bulb is in place?

I've checked all the wiring leading to the number plate light and it all looks fine. I've tried taking that particular bulb out and then turning the lights on but its still blowing.
