03 2.0 Wrong Suspension Fluid in my C5 - BrummyC5
Hi

I had the suspension fluid changed in my 53 reg C5 just over a year ago by a mechanic that I generally trust. He told me that the fluid was green. I have finally got a Haynes manual which says that the fluid is LDS and orange in colour. I am worried that the hoses and seals will be damaged. Should I have the fluid drained and refilled? I have not experienced any leaks to date. Any thoughts?

I remember the fluid being green but that was some years ago.

Get the details and either phone your local dealer or try the forums for the C5.

Thanks Sandy56.

Was that fluid on a C5 though?

All C5s take LDS which is orange. I assume it got filled with LHM, which is the wrong stuff. I dont know what effect this would have.

I'd get this to a Citroen specialist. Back in the days when the fluid was usually green there was a product called Hydraflush which could be used in place of the fluid for a few hundred miles to clean the system... then you'd drain it and replace with the correct fluid.

There may be such a product for the orange LDS fluid.

Thanks

I'll go to Euro Car Care in Derby. This Wouldn't have happened if I'd gone there first. Mind you if Citroen didn't make it so hard to get information I might have seen this coming. I checked my Citroen Owners Manual last night to see what fluids were recommended and there doesn't appear to be anything on suspension fluid.

It will run perfectly OK and will not damage any reals in an emergency you can fill them with brake fluid and they will operate the suspension without bother.I assume you are haveing no problems at the moment the colour is only a dye.

Thanks Andy

I got it drained and refilled. I hadn't experienced any problems.

If you don't mind me asking; how do you know this?
