I have a glow of satisfaction at the moment because, as a result of my request, the council are cutting back hedges locally where they were encroaching on the tarmac. Up to then the hedges were only kept under control by vehicles brushing against them. The rest of the street have been whinging about the hedges for ages but none of them could be bothered to report the situation.

I would prioritise potholes on most of the roads I drive on regularly, Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Surrey.

The road in question is very narrow, and I used to cringe every time I met someone coming the other way. Brushing against a hedge can cause just as much damage as driving over a pothole.

Trouble is, T-Cut doesn't repair the broken spring or shock absorber ;o)

I've had good success from reporting problem potholes etc via the fixmystreet website.

One of the thirty or so potholes I have reported have been filled in so far, and that was in the local village highstreet. The other ones havn't been touched. Its not much fun driving on rural roads in the dark at present, especially when you have to drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid whole areas covered in multiple potholes.Bad in a car, possibly fatal for a cyclist.

There we are, our lorries are useful for something L'escargot:)
We can 'do' hedges anything up to 16' high if invited!

I'm one of the few Backroomers in favour of lorries and lorry drivers. For about 26 years I worked for a company that made lorry components, so I knew which side my bread was buttered.

Report the situation? Pah!
There was a sign on a road not far from where I live that was becoming obscured by vegetation. Did I report it? No. I got out my gardening equipment and did the job myself.
Report the situation to the council? What is this country coming to?
;-)

This was a 200 metre long stretch of 5 metre high dense wild hedging, not a few bits of "vegetation".

5 metre high
Ahhh. A bit high. Even for you, I suspect.

"No. I got out my gardening equipment and did the job myself. "
What just like that?
You mean you didn't undertake a health and safety audit and undergo a gardening equipment safety course?
People like you need counselling:-)

I googled for Jost to see what they make, but they're not things I know anything about.

It's the landowner's responsibility to cut hedges. I was served with a notice by our council to cut back my hedges and trees up to a height of 16 feet back to the edge of the highway, not just the tarmac carriageway..

It's the landowner's responsibility to cut hedges.
I wish that people who use flails to "cut" hedges would be compelled to sweep up all the thorns and bits of twig that they strew all over the highway. I got a puncture from one such last year.

This problem is also due to the snow, as it is common in our area lately. The snow weighted down so many overgrown hedges that many of them now easily overhang the roads.
I still say though, the potholes are far more of a problem, we have some vicious ones on a major through route in our area which are impossible to avoid at the moment.
