04 1.4 Manifold pressure fault code help - Clio87
Hi

I've just had a yellow warning light come up. In the book it says it is "exhaust emissions" warning light. RAC came out and read it on the computer and it said "manifold atmospheric pressure sensor fault".

RAC didn't look beyond reading the computer, but said safe to drive home even though had an 80 mile journey. It did drive home okay though.

Am I safe to drive this for another 4 days (160 mile return each day) as I can't get it to a garage before this? I'm clueless as to what the manifold pressure is! EPC light came on also but went out on its own.

Does anyone know what VW would charge to diagnose what the fault is and give a quote for repair? (RAC said only a VW computer would tell more about the fault).

Many thx.

If its the MAP sensor then new genuine part is around £80 retail I think. You can get copy parts (prob made in China) for around £25 on Ebay. Try ECP or GSF car parts for reputable pattern part at a price somewhere in between.
The sensor fits into the end of the inlet manifold. VW and some parts suppliers sometimes call it a Thrust Sensor.

For definitive diagnosos get the car to an idenpended who repairs VAG cars.

You can drive the car but not really recommended since there fuel consumption is likely to be higher, poss down on power and some chance of damage to cat.

Although a diag test has logged a fault with the map sensor,I would be very surprised if this is actually the problem. This trouble code is often set by a problem with breather /vacuum hoses split or perished and possibly a dirty throttle body. Also the map sensor can suffer oil contamination and just needs a clean out.hth

totally agree with above, apart from cleaning of sensor. Quite a few weve cleaned seem to come back faulty. We cleaned them with brake cleaner (bit less agressive than carb cleaner) but they seem to get permanently damaged once oil gets into them.
