03 2.0 diesel Car won't go go over 50/ no power - hackett
Hi all bit of advice please. My father in law has a 53 reg diesel mondeo. Just this week the problem has started. The car is running but when he puts his foot down it won't go over fifty and a light has come on the dash- wavey lines? He has been told this is the glow plugs symbol?? He has taken it to a garage and put on the compuer but nothing should up.
Please help before he throws money at it and the wrong advice.
Cheers dave

Old mondeo , could be lots of possible problems. Suggest you take it to an independent diesel garage, maybe BOSCH approved, and see what they say.

Again, as with numerous other threads in the section, there is not much you can do on these without doing proper diags, and even then they can confount you.
Shotgun repairs and poke and hope under the bonnet usually lead to more greif.
Competent diesel independent repair is your best bet. Main dealer will skin you alive.

It's possibly a turbo fault. I had similar symptoms on mine and the Ford dealer found that it was a stuck actuator arm on the turbo. He put some heat proof grease on it and problem solved. I suggest you get someone to gently rev the engine while you check to see that the arm over the heat shield on the turbo at the back of the engine moves up and down. Good luck

Could be but more likely the car is in limp-home mode due to one of a number of other more obscure problems, I dont think it can be diagnosed without garage investigation.
