Hi All,
Looking for suggestions for a replacement car.
Need practicality, good economy and ground clearance for regular farm track access. Only need 2wd.
Must have 5 doors and be able to fit a Golden Retriever in the boot and be no smaller than medium hatch - would consider an estate though.
Unfortunately a Berlingo or Kangoo or Doblo is out of the question on looks! Shame as its a favourite of mine but the car is not for me.
I reckon a diesel Rover Streetwise might do - any ideas anyone?
Ta muchly.
David.

How much is "good"?
Rover Streetwise - a comedy car produced by jokers. Not for use in the real world.
What about a late model Citroen Xantia estate? - you can raise the body for higher clearance, and lower back to normal for the 99% of the time you are on standard road surfaces.

I like that suggestion of a Citroen with hydro suspension.
Otherwise, a
Tata Safari
Dacia Duster
or an old Forester (not economical though)
|
Oh!
Or a 2CV.
Or Renault 4.

|
A Dacia Duster?
Bit too rough and ready.
If you can find one. Maybe you can hire.... a duster.

Hi ONB,
Whats comedy about the Streetwise?
A car produced in the death throes of AR but the actual car?
The ground clearance is good and the L series diesel is suposedly a solid engine.
The Xantia is a nice car - I like the idea but cant see being able to sell it as an idea to my sister - she had a BX GTi a few years ago and didnt like it. (I did tho!)
Hey Bellboy,
Any good a dog training then?
Down shep, get in yer bed.
I know, I know, but the cars not for me, for my big sis and she sez they look a bit "postman pat"

I live in a rural area and you see lots of Ford Fusion around - for all the reasons you mention. The higher seating position is better for seeing out of junctions on little lanes too.
|
Thanks Paul, thats interesting.
I did think Fusion, but could decide from a picture wether it was just stretched upwards or did indeed have a higher clearance underneath.
I guess a tape measure would prove.

Suzuki Ignis? There are 2wd and 4wd models.
|
1.3 Ignis is FWD - the 1.5 manual is 4WD via viscous coupling.
|
|
|
i thought fusion too but dont think there will be enough dog room
they are basically a fiesta jacked up so i like them
|
|
|
Daihatsu Terios (old model)
Suzuki Ignis
Old land rover
Old Toyota RAV4
If you don't like 4WD mechanism, get rid of them and it will make your car 2WD :)
