I have a 53 plate 2 litre mondeo LX with 40k miles on the clock which is a little thirsty as I dont do alot of miles but my friend has offered me his Focus and I am tempted.
The focus is as follows
Ford Focus 1.6 Petrol
Black 'Zetec' Model
53 (2004) Reg
11 Months MOT
93,000 miles on clock
This is what I have had done to it
Replacement Suspension Links £150 - these are the struts on the suspension. They had started rattling at the back so had them all changed
Replacement gas struts for tail gate
Water Pump broke - fixed under warranty
He wants £2200 for it.
What do you think I will get for mine and is £2200 fair price?

Why would you want to buy a Focus with twice the mileage as your Mondeo?
Your car, though a bit thirsty, is more comfortable, and more spacious. What would be the reason for buying the Focus? The economy? You've already said you don't do much mileage.
I'd say keep the Mondeo if its reliable, which they usually are.

The Focus is a great price though will need a cambelt kinda now if it has not been done whereas the Mondeo III is chain cam.
|
Having had both in the past I'd stick with the Mondy, much better equipped (for example - has the Focus got ABS, Aircon, Side Airbags and a heated screen, many don't).
Also, whilst we had a 1.8 Focus Zetec, my 2.0 Mondy III estate was actually more economical (albeit possibly not the case for the 1.6 Focus). If you do a low mileage then the fuel cost difference should be small.
In the end, however good the Focus is (don't misunderstand me I like them), the Mondy is better in most respects (IMHO of course).

the mondeo drives itself
the focus wants driving
the choice as cilla says is yours

What's it all about bellboy?

Actually I am not sure what you mean though both are entertaining to drive.
|
the mondeo is such a nice car you waft along in it and dont need to push it, although it turns in very nicely
the focus always wants you to punt it on and is a little more choppy as only a smaller car can be
both nice cars but for waftability on todays mud tracks the mondeo is the clear winner
see clear as yellow snow.........:-)

According to the Owners Guide for my Focus (and who knows more about the Focus than Ford Motor Co.?) is for the cambelt to be changed at 100,000 miles or 10 years.

Try doing the sums: if as you say your mileage is low, and you lose some money on the transaction, the slightly better economy of the Focus will take a long time to pay the loss back - and in any case may be made worse if the high-mileage Focus needs repairs.
If your Mondeo is reliable I'd say keep it and maybe go on some form of economy driving course, if such things exist (they ought to - an opportunitty for driving instructors to diversify).

I guess if you could get £3500 for the Mondeo and put some money in the bank though check the cambelt on the Focus, that is a few hundred quid.

Thanks for all your replies. I will keep the Mondeo and for all the reasons you say and as I was buying from a friend I was worried that the Focus would be a pup. Thanks to all of you

The easiest way to end a friendship is to buy a car from them.
