Some people buy expensive jewellery, and other people buy cheap imitations. What's the difference ? Owning expensive jewellery presumably gives immense personal satisfaction, that's what. If you've got it, flaunt it. I just wish I'd got a bit more flaunting capability !!
Reg. No. - volvoman
Yep, I've got no problem with these people paying for such plates. I think the really sad ones are those who tweak and distort ordinary plates to read something they're not.

I hadn't realised that
K1NGS had been sold so long ago - I wonder what it would go for today !

isnt KINGS on Jonathan Kings car (i could well be wrong here? but he has something similar) and in view of his current position I dont think the car will be out much ?

the best one is the red ferarri with J BECK as a number plate, which I guess must be a certain guitarist of note ? if youre reading this can I borrow the car ?
Reg. No. - Ian (Cape Town)
IIRC, Jonothan King used to park his gold-coloured roller a few streets off Queensway, and it was JK 22. (I lived in the area in 1986-88).
He may have upgraded sice then.
I met him around that time - what a twit. (damn typos - a for i!)

It's not JK's car - I've seen the car and driver several times before and since JK came to grief.

I didn't think K1 NGS was sold that long ago, but time flies when you're having fun!
I think you will find that it was bought by the chap who used to have King's Club on Canvey Island, I'm not quite sure as to whether it is the same Dave King who manages Canvey Island F.C., but I'm pretty sure there was a connection.
I definitely remember seeing the photo of the plate in our local paper when it was sold as it was supposedly the record price for a plate at the time, presumably from it being top of the list it still is.
Just wish I had that much money, let alone be able to pay for a reg.

Agree with you PLS. Why stand out ??
I would rather spend the money on something 'real' ,the DVLA will always own the number plate you are just the current registered user.
Has the new registration plates decreased interest ? having a '02' or '52' planted in the middle reduces the word making possibilities.
Reg. No. - Dave_TD
The local police contracted recovery firm has some very nice tow trucks, with the registrations:

T11W EM (add two black screws between the 1's thus : )
W111 TOW (with a white screw turning the first "1" into an "i")
AS51ST U (just plain clever!)

More money than sense in UK. The reg doesn't even read right in most cases and you have to figure it out. I bought "GROWLER" - exactly as is from the Broward County DMV in Florida some years ago for, as I recall for something under 100 Ben Franklins.

That reminds me of when my mum bought a Polo years ago. (The car was technically a P reg and was a year old when she got it.)

I say "technically" because the car had Irish number plates on - nothing special; just 3 letter and 4 numbers. Anyway, after buying it, the garage rang and said the number plate wasn't included in the deal!

It turned out they wanted to sell it to someone separately!

Seen on the M40 Monday. Not quite sure of the vehicle, but at a glance the plate spelt FREEDOM. It was something like F833 DOM, but according to the AA website ( www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/cardatacheck/index.jsp?...e ) that number is attached to a Fiesta, but it was a bigger vehicle than that.

F233DOM - a Toyota Supra, perhaps?

Incidentally, on the AA site Dave mentioned, you can put in the plate and see what comes out (car, engine capacity I think) before proceeding. The point is so that they don't have to authorise refunds for 'typos' - i.e., info on F332DOM, being a Suzuki motorcycle, is unlikely to be worth £37 to the potential Supra buyer.

(Let alone a user who pays the £37 and then seeks the refund on the grounds that he didn't mean to put the [correct] plate in and was too scared to try again).
Reg. No. - Dynamic Dave
F233DOM - a Toyota Supra, perhaps?

Sorry D.HM, wrong shape. I was half asleep (in the passenger seat, not driving I hasten to add) and also part concentrating my mind on the totty in lane one, but I\'m quite sure it wasn\'t a Supra.

And hear we go back to the more money than sense bit...

Just think how many millions have been made by the DVLA by selling these numbers, if they had'nt got the money from plate sales they would have got it from higher road tax.
Reg. No. - No Do$h
You don't have to pay £37 to find out what car it is. You put in the reg, it tells you the vehicle and asks if it's the correct one and do you want to proceed.

Or at least it did the last time I looked.

...and indeed more noticeable by kid- and carnappers. I don't understand the fascination in UK with these things, particularly as the UK plate system doesn't really lend itself to neat names like the US one, although I can see the potential as an investment. Mind you if house prices tank and mortgage rates go up, I bet personal plates will be the first to shrink in value!

The letters on my Capri's plate have been amusing people with 13-year-old minds for 20 years (well, not for the 13 years it was laid up in my garage).
