The new Ford Fiesta (and the Fusion) share the same 1.4 TDCI engine with the Citroen C3. The C3 has both a 70BHP 8 valve version and a 92BHP 16v version, but the Fiesta only has the lower spec 8 valve.
Are there any insiders on this forum with any ideas or rumours as to when Ford will release the 16 valve engine for the Fiesta?

They already have launched the 16V, it never disappeared, they've got the 1.4 and 1.6 Zetec engines available, both of which are 16V :)

I'm refering to the 1.4 TDCI diesel.
|
Oh sorry, when you mentioned the 8 valve I thought that you were on about the fantastically out of date petrol engine that they are still turning out! :O

This is a 1.6 litre engine, fixed geometry turbocharger and rated at 90PS. Rumour suggests available in Fiesta 2004 MY, very much a guess I'm afraid.

I dont think so, the reference is to the 1.4 HDI 16 valve fitted to only the C£ at present.
Pugeot have not yet used it either, so I would not hold your breath.

Peugeot are using the 1.4 HDi engine in the 206.

The Peugeot 206 only has the 1.4 HDI diesel in the 8v 68BHP version (though there is a 2 litre 90BHP diesel for about £1000 more).
It's intriguing me why Citroen/Peugeot and Ford should have collaborated on the design of the 16v 90BHP 1.4 litre diesel, yet it is only being used by Citroen.
Does anybody know if there are any substantial differences between the 8v and 16v versions as fitted to the Citroen C3, other than sticking eight more valves in the cylinder head? And how do the two engines compare for low speed torque?
|
16 valves instead of 8, variable vane turbo, intercooler. There are a few differences which I know of.
The torque is about 150 lbs/ft on the 16 valve (about the same as a 2 liter petrol engine)
I know that Diesel car tested it when new and said that it would not pull below 2000 rpm, I can confirm that mine was like that new, but now with 8700 miles on the clock it will pull strongly on full throttle from about 1300 rpm.
The performance is blistering for such a small engine, that may be due to correct running in Citroen say no more than 3000 rpm - about 90 mph in top gear!
All this and about 68 mpg with air-con always on and a good thrashing every time it is driven.
