07 2.2 Sat Nav missing post code entry - nickallen
Hi - is there anybody out there who has an Avensis and been able to upgrade the built in Sat Nav from 'plain old street names' to also include 'Post Codes'? There must be a facility at Toyota to upgrade maps as and when, and surely if this is possible they can include a 'Post Code' facility.

Hi Nick,

Its not really functionality someone can just add on to the dealer version -- unlike say the BMW CD you can remaster it and include places of interest on there too in your version. In that case you're just augmenting existing data -- which is generally possible, provided you can make sense of the way the data is organised.

However for postcode search it's not just adding data to the CD it's also programming the in car computer to handle the data.

The dealer is the only person able to help i would imagine.

I am pretty sure that it will not be possible to add the postcode. It would involve altering the firmware of the unit and this will be in a chip on the SatNav itself. My dads disc got scratched and the want a stupid price for a new one. So if a firmware was available it would cost an arm and a leg. I should buy another SatNav it would be alot cheaper. Maplin are doing a cat A Garmen 340e edition for £40 which includes europe but do not assume the offer will be on for long. Does anyone know where I can obtain a DVD or copy for the set SATNAV system as my dads us scratched and a replacement was quoted at £170.

Which satnav do you have?

Mine is also an 07, and I can do postcodes, though they're not obvious and you need to know where to look. (Mines a B9000, also known as a TNS600).

It should be possible to upgrade the software on these via an updated disk. But you'd need to buy it. Ask at your Toyota dealer.
