Mechanical failure insurance - cabsmanuk
I am thinking of taking out the AA mechanical failure insurance which is £48 a year for £500 cover. Is it worth it? any experience?

This only covers repairs (parts & labour) following a breakdown where the AA has been called out. £25 excess. Lots of exclusions, the most serious of which is wear and tear i.e. any component which has failed due to age. I haven't called out a breakdown service since 1966 so you can guess my answer to the 'is it worth it' question.

I'd say save your money as I never bother with extended warranties. They all try and wriggle out of paying anyhow.

Depending on the age of your car and if you want a proper warranty, use someone like Car Care Warranty.

I've used Motor Warranty Direct several times. They cover components the others don't and have always paid up at claim time. Your car needs to be serviced at factory intervals and they ask to see the MoT certificate if you claim. If repairs are done at one of their listed garages, they pay the bill direct.

They also have a discounted service scheme at these listed garages.
