Which Hot-Hatch ? - PhilDS
Hi

I've got up to £6000 to spend and am after something with a bit of poke and is fun to drive. I would value feedback and experiences of the following especially around the area of reliability and running costs (excl. fuel)

Peugeot 206 GTi 180 2004
Renaultsport Clio 182 2004/05
Ford Fiesta ST 150 2005/06
Citroen Xsara VTS 167 2004
Mazda 3 Sport 150 2005
Seat Ibiza FR 1.8T 150 2004

Phil, nice to have the choice, part of the fun of buying. I haven't any experience of these but hopefully someone that has will reply. In the meantime, have you looked at the 'car by car breakdown' from the homepage?
Which Hot Hatch - bell boy
make sure its fully inspected before purchase because most of those listed tend to get fronts repaired at some time in their lives
some done well
some done so badly you have to laugh

Got to be the Clio for the most performance/fun/smiles and Focus or Mazda3 for reliability/repairs. All of them will have been driven hard or very hard and some will have been very well cared for so as bell boy recommends, take your time with a careful inspection of the car and its history.

You could add a Focus Mk I ST170. Also a Golf V6 4Motion.

The Fiesta ST has the Duratec engine that is chain cam, helps with maintenance costs considerably.

Hi
In July 09 I brought a Seat Leon Cupra R for the other half, 225bhp standard, very fast and fun, I often use this and leave my company car at home, so much fun, I paid £6k from dealer and it has 47k on the clock, came with 1 years warranty, not put a foot wrong, started perfect after 3 weeks left in the snow.

The car come fully loaded as standard, 6 disc changer, climate control, brembo brakes, 18in wheels.

Would highly recommend these cars, I travelled from Bham to Newcastle upon Tyne to get the car as I saw it on the net, worth the drive and they delivered it for free!

I had a Leon Cupra (not the R) from new for 2 years/ 40k. Never missed a beat, and I absolutely loved it. HJ had one at the time and said very nice things.

HTH,

Alex.

Id second the vote for a Golf V6 4Motion, if you shop around £6k should get you something fully loaded with Leather, Sat Nav, Xenons etc. The engine is chain cam too, but has two of them.

I had one for just over a year and it was an awesome car, silky smooth V6 and hugely undersated looks for a Golf with 204bhp. I dont think they're much slower than an R32 (if the dealer was to be believed.......)

Not a hot hatch as such though, more of an effortless cruiser.

You can get a decent Subaru Impreza for £6K. Also the Toyota Corolla T-Sport is reliable and fun, though not as good handling as something like a Focus or Clio.

How about a classic Ford escort Rs Turbo in rosso red........?

ANy VAG group car with the 1.8T engine can be chipped up to 212BHP, rapid indeed. The Clio & Pug reputedly have the best chassis & that's what counts in these cars IMO

If you can get the later model CLIO with the better seat GO FOR IT Great HOT HATCH.

clio all day long from that selection. the 182 is the real deal, even more than the 172.

Id add a honda civic type r to the list, reliable revvy and really fun to drive.
