Happened last winter too after large sheets of ice crashed on the carriageway.

Yes it is that or "cylinders" of ice falling off the suspension cables. Whatever it is you wouldn't want to be hit by it!

No you certainly wouldnt want to be hit by a lump. It did happen last year. Never heard it happening on any of the other big bridges, Humber,Forth etc.
