My little brother had the gearbox on his 2001 avensis blow up yesterday. With chrimbo so close he is thinking of hiring a car to get around while it is fixed.
I seem to remember seeing 3 month hire deals for around £99 a month a few years ago which I think were using up expiring lease deals. Does anyone know if my memory is failing me or whether this sort of thing can be done?

Hired a a fiesta for 28 days earlier this year and was somewhere around £400

There is no way you can hire a car for £99 a month, there would not ne any money for it for the hire company! The cheapest you can get superminis for is around £90 a week.

Don't get your hopes up too high with the aforementioned lease swapping company, if my experience is anything to go by...
Despite registering an interest with them in November they have proved hard to communicate with. No messages have been replied to, no landline number listed (only a mobile voicemail, with no company name mentioned), and there's no address to write to. Their TRUSTe site privacy validation expired several years ago, despite the logo still appearing, and cobwebs abound around the site.
Let me know if you do manage to get a response from them though...

I am looking at a price list from about 6 months ago for 28 day contract car hire, some examples, all ex VAT based on 1250 miles per month.
Skoda Fabia 1.2 £199.99 (the cheapest)
Ford Fiesta 1.6 £219.99
VW Golf TDI £315.72
It is an old list but I'm sure the prices are in the same ball park. Company is based in York, no idea if that is any use to you. We have used the company extensively in the past, if you want the details please send me a message (I think you have to ask the moderators for my email). Hope that is useful.
