Paying off the National Debt - Mr.Tee43
Some of you might have read my tongue in cheek comment about all of us paying a £60 speeding charge to lower this debt.

Have a look here.

Nice little earner for the Government.

I can see the instructions now.

Come on you lot, get those tickets issued, we need the money so no mercy.

I wonder how much nationally is earnt from parking, speeding and other motoring fines from non-criminal behaviour?

Probably enough to add a 1p to income tax if we all stopped doing these things and behaved ourselves.

So, whoever you are out there, keep racking up those parking fines - I pay enough tax already! :)

Doubt it, peanuts in the grand scheme of things, especially as the majority choose not to pay these "taxes"... Keeps some jobs going, though, such as the traffic wardens (or whatever they are called these days), lawyers, court people, police, ballifs, etc, which is probably a good thing

Parking attendants and bailiffs, not a good thing! The fewer the better!

A Transport for London (TfL) spokeswoman added: ''TfL enforces traffic regulations to keep the red route network moving safely for the benefit of all road users."

... adding: 'and all road users not on the red route network can go take a running jump. Or rather, er, a crawling jump.'

Sadly though most of that income goes to big parking companies who work on behalf the council. It is their share holders which make a lot of the profit from parking fines.

Personaly I love parking wardens and it makes my day to see some pratt blocking of an entire lane causing a major obstruction get tickeded.

I think fines for parking ilegaly and being fined for being 5 minutes over a different things though.

Nope, they're one and the same, Rattle. Go over time and you are parked illegaly

Not really RR, you have just gone over time. I think what Rattle means is people parked on double yellow lines, that sort of thing.

However, I suspect him of an exaggerated, Double-Take Brothers attitude to any car he sees so parked, whether it is really causing an obstruction or not. His unseemly glee at people getting PCNs makes him seem rather undeserving, I have to say.

Shape up lad! Whose side are you on?
Paying off the National Debt - Rattle
Ineed, spending 3 minutes over time is not going to cause an accident, parking on double yellow lines could cause a death depending on how serious the obstruction is.
Paying off the National Debt - zookeeper
rubbish, so how do you rationalise streets with parking bays AND double yellow lines ? your either an obstruction or you aint, cant have it both ways
Paying off the National Debt - Lud
Quite zookeeper. Some people can't see even a single yellow line without cringing and begging to be punished.

Tchah!
Paying off the National Debt - Rattle
If you're in a bay you're not really causing an obstruction. If you're parked on double yellows just before a major junction your causing havoc.

Both are legal but the seriousness of it is very different.

That is nothing compared to the debt legacy that is going to be put on the shoulders of our children and grandchildren:

We will all be in the moon under water by then anyway! But with advance in medical science who knows people might be able to carry on working till their 90! Certainly I know I will never be able to afford to retire.

ISTR Jeremy Clarkson pointing out a few years ago that the total annual nationwide revenue from speed cameras was £115m, while the cost of administrating them was £95m, leading to an overall contribution to central government funds by speeding motorists of £20m.

Simon Cowell, meanwhile, paid £21.7m in income tax in the same year.

Does that mean it would be worth taxing Strictly X Idol Get Me Dancing On Got Talent ??? :-)
Paying off the National Debt - Rattle
I wouldn't always believe what JC says. I have a few of his books and as much as I am a big fan of his he does sometimes get his facts wrong.

"Simon Cowell, meanwhile, paid £21.7m in income tax in the same year."

Most of that is from the people who take part in the telephone votes on his various talentless shows.

So I look upon it as another tax for the lower eschelons !

But for some reason a blue badge holder is not deemed to be dangerous when parked on double yellows?
Paying off the National Debt - b308
As usual a massive over-simplification of the BB scheme, and technically incorrect as well... the BB scheme, is not, and never has been, a licence to park anywhere... Parking on yellows is subject to the following:

"You must also NOT park where it would be obstrucive or a danger to others"

It then goes on to give a few examples. Half way down page 8 on this link:

www.liverpool.gov.uk/Images/tcm21-42499.doc

If we do park where we obstruct or cause danger then we can be done. For the record I, and many I know, try to avoid parking on double yellows. But sometimes you have to.

Sorry, DD, a rather "heat of the moment" post, I was reminded of a certain poster, long gone thank goodness, who was rather prone to having a go at the BB scheme and disabled drivers' "privilages"...

Despite what some people think, though, the Scheme is not a licence for a free for all, though I do admit that some BB scheme holders, usually those of an elderly nature rather than the younger physically disabled ones do push their luck a little... Which is one reason i feel that there should be far stricter controls on who gets one, at the moment its far too easy to get one from some councils, my local one included. One thing I noticed when over in Germany is there seem to be far fewer of them, and I honestly don't believe the Germans are that much healthier than us, just better control on who gets one!

To park in an obviously dangerous place is idiotic. Merely to park on double yellow lines is completely harmless and neutral.

The problem here is that people somehow confuse these two things. They are encouraged of course by local authorities whose rabid, persistent, ingenious justification of widespread theft is thus justified in the eyes of the bleating herds.

Tchah!
