Has anybody got/had experience of the RS version. It certainly looks value for money.
|
|
An excellent car with a great spec that sells at a good price. Don't let the badge snobs put you off because it is a skoda. You'll be laughing your head off at THEM!
|
Excellent it may be, but that doesn't keep depreciation away! I've seen figures of approx 30% retained value at 3 years, so a used buy would be even better value!

The RS handles better than the Leon too!!!! If only I wasn't doing 35k / year i'd have bought the RS is stead of my Leon..... which by the way is not a Euro import TDi 150, but a chipped 110 :-)

Just out of intrest, why not? at what point whould you have bought it, 20k a year / 10k ..? I think I am missing something here
|
Leon TDi - Averages 43mpg with heavy foot - £240 / month fuel
RS - Averages 26mpg with heavy foot - £400 / Month Fuel
With the chip my Leon is equal in acceleration to RS/Cupra. If I was doing 25,000 year, or my girlfriend needs a new car then it is more viable...in a cost sense.

So why not chip an Octavia TDi?
|
>>>"So why not chip an Octavia TDi?"
No reason, except I didn't buy one!!! I went to a Skoda Garage when I was buying and was greeted by a sales man who said he didn't need to give me any discount as they sell all they can get....... So I bought a Leon instead!!!

Fair point, wasn't the Skoda dealer in a North Bedfordshire village was it?
I've had all I can take from them in the last 18 months, I'm now getting my Octavia serviced 30 miles away (by a dealer who actually seems to give a hoot)!
|
Did you ever think we would see the day when a Skoda dealer didn't need customers?
I think they should be careful, because although people can't get enough of their junk at the moment, history has a habit of repeating itself.
Don't forget, they foisted some of the most awful cars in history upon us. Just mention the Estelle 120 and then look at their faces.
Although these cars sell well to a certain audience, I still think most people are wary of this brand, the biggest Skoda dealer in Suffolk went bust about 9 months ago, but I don't think it was through lack of customers !
|
Just mention the Estelle 120....
....and you think of a car whose visual proportions were all wrong, and which was very much built down to a price. Some old Skoda models were quite pretty, weren't they.
The obvious comparaison is with the VW beetle, which was over engineered and a design icon. I know which car I'd rather drive on a twisty road, though. In my ideal garage I'd have a Skoda Rapid (sic) fastback to go with the Porche 911 for when I felt like having similar thrills but at half the speed.
|
So even HJ's a bit wary of smoking around a Skoda badge.
The division perhaps still have some work to do there.
|
Saying that, I did see one of the new Skoda Superb models in town the other day and it did indeed look superb.
Beautiful deep metallic blue and quite a looker. One thing I didn't understand though was that it had plastic hubcaps!
This was a car crying out for nice alloys.
|
|
From people that actually run Skoda, the only negative point i've heard is that the parts back-up can be a bit iffy.

The dealer 30 miles S of the one you don't like? If not, then where please so that I can try another one too.
|
I've not got any personal experience of the car, but I love it.
Have a look at www.briskoda.net or forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=110 if you want information about the Octavia. Lots of posters there have a great deal of experience with the car, and I've never seen anyone complain.
There's really no comparison with the Estelle, anyway, except possibly if an Estelle was half as good it would be an even better Q-car. It's fast, discreet, and good value.
As for the 30% retained value at 3 years... just no. Try and get a 1-2 year old for less than £11-£12k, even with 40,000 up, and you'll see what I mean. The lease rates are expensive on the car because of predicted depreciation, but actual transaction prices are doing very well. That said, I expect the used market will soften a lot and the car should be available for under £9k in a year's time with 70,000 miles on the clock.
However you look at it, against a discounted new price of less than £14,000 (www.tins.co.uk) that's outstandingly good, unless you've been leasing based on a retained value of half that.
|
With regards to skoda residuals, I was looking for a nice cheap depreciated used Octavia two years ago - no chance, no such thing at the time. Instead I negtiated 9+% off the new price of a poverty spec one ie £9000! this was actually cheaper that any nearly new used ones at the time.

Riseley give me the thumbed nose, Cambridge give me the red carpet. (Mark, can I say that?)

>>Mark, can I say that?)
I really have no idea. If you could translate, then perhaps I could decide whether or not I am offended.

I think Dave was comparing the quality of service @ 2 different garages...
|
oh, I see.
Well I think he can say that - no accusation of dishonesty, no pending court cases, no specific accusation of a behaviour or any "they said" or "they did".
Straight opinion of perception of customer service.
No problems.

Cheers, thanks M(RLBS). I haven't been on here long enough to know whether it was OK to say that or not. It sounds like DGW lives fairly close to me, I didn't want the poor service I've received in the past to put him off buying a perfectly good car.

Aha, another one we have to convert!
If she ever needs a taxi...?

That could be a good point; the sexier it looks, the more likely it is to be pulled.
