Oxford to Weymouth best route? - frazerjp
What's the best route going from Oxford to Weymouth on Sunday morning?

I'll be starting off about 10-11am if not later.
Should I go via A34 then M3 past Winchester & Southampton then onto A27
or go via Salisbury on a pretty route?

Thanks in advance.

I assume you mead the M27! The route via M3, M27 A31 is the fastest route on a Sunday morning (little traffic), if you are returning the same day ie Sunday evening (A Busy time) I would recommend your 'pretty' route Blandford Salisbury Andover.

One tip because of the building of the Weymouth Relief Road, I would recommend turning off the A35 just after Bere Regis and taking a B Road ( B3390)Road through Affpuddle and Warmwell to Weymouth via the A353. This will avoid queues entering Weymouth!

As a fairly regular visitor to Weymouth I'd use the route singlish suggests.

Singlish i did mean the M27 :/

I think your advice about turning off after Bere Regis would be followed as the Weymouth Relief Road does cause traffic build up, especially around the Dorchester by-pass.

Dear Singlish

I live in Edinburgh and intend to cross to France in March taking the ferry from Weymouth to St Malo. I will be spending the night in Woodstock and travelling by car the next day to take the ferry at 12.00. I am a complete tyro at this business, so would be grateful for your advice. What would be the best route from Woodstock and how long wouild it take me to reach Weymouth? I would have to book in by 11.00 am. Any advice will be welcome. John Irvine.

If you really aren't in a hurry, take the A420 out of Oxford and turn on to the A338, which you can follow (Wantage, Hungerford, Salisbury) all the way to the A31 near Bournemouth.
