93 1.3 Wind Problems? - Breams
hi My friend has the KA, for the last week when she drives in open spaces there is quite a horrific what sounds like a wind noise - this sounds as though it is coming from the the bonnet area near to the bottom of the window. (Sounds like a very loud hoover!) in built up areas there is no noise, there is also no feeling of air/wind coming through the screen, & it makes no difference if the vents are open or closed/ heater on or off. Does anyone have any ideas of what this may or may not be? Thanks

There is very litttle noise protection on the Ka, they are built cheaply down to a price, sound proofing was one of the first things they cut back on. It may just be that.

hi, Thank you for responding, I appreciate there is little sound proofing but this actual noise has only occured in the last week

i had to look at a ka for a colleague the other week it was making a bad banging on certain roads
he changed
strut
anti roll bar rubbers
drop links
upper strut mounting
and all the tyres round
i looked and advised him the rear part of the bonnet was under some conditions hitting the wing rail
oh how he nearly cried at the no expense fit i had found him
moral of the story?
assume nothing with a ka
might be worth checking out the pollen filter under screen passenger side
you dont say age of car so it could be wind noise into the lower a panel thats rotted out
wing liner might have moved
mirror
etc
etc
etc.......

hi Thank you - it is a 99' - treg think post says '93', apparently a mechanic has looked over the vehicle but cannot find anything obvious wrong. he said possible window seal - but the window hasn't been replaced. Friend said this only been happening this week, and wondered whether it had been caused after an emergency stop. If the mechanic is correct & it is the window could this have distorted the window frame? but there is no wind/ air coming in around the window - so makes no sense
Would an emergency stop dislodge the window requiring it to be resealed when no air can be felt?
This is very odd - sounds like air being sucked! but only in open spaces - all ideas welcome

however are you sure an attempted break in hasnt distorted the door frame where a hoodie has tried to pull the frame out?

I must admit other than driving the car to listen to the noise & situ of the noise, I have not checked the screen myself... I can only assume there is no evidence of a break in as I am sure my friend would have noticed this and advised me accordingly

situ of noise sounds like from being inside the car looking forward, as though it comes from dead centre of bonnet where it joins the vents & bottom of screen - other than a loud hoover noise - this could also be interpreted as a dragging noise (It's not dragging anything & the brakes have been checked)

Have you checked to see if it's still there if you knock it into neutral thus eliminating engine noise?

will ask her to try that next thanks

hi, this has been tested and made no difference. Her husband has now looked at the vehicle & he suspects a perished rubber washer round the bonnet prop stick... replacement washer will prove if this is what is causing the noise
