Motor trade sayings:
Service? Whatsthat?
A fool and his money buy a car from us (and are soon parted).
I'm sorry Sir ( or Madam) the warranty does not cover consumable items.. and a car is of course a consumer item.
Fit for purpose? You never said you wanted to drive it and not break down.
Our staff are all highly trained and quality controlled which is why we only charge £60 per hour.
They all squeak like that.
Of course we guarantee all our work for 3 months. But that is parts only and the rectification cost for labour is £450.
We cannot find a rattle from the engine.
No, our mechanics did not scratch your car or rev to 6,000 when test driving it.
We never clock second hand cars or sell them to the public (unspoken: we sell them to Fred down the road who does).
I'm sorry Sir (or Madam) but we don't keep the parts that we replaced on your car. You want to inspect them? Whatever for?

What on earth does 'taking a bath' mean?
|
It means losing a lot of money on a car deal (I think)
|
Does it mean the same as 'being taken to the cleaners'which was a phrase I recall from my youth which meant that someone had been financially stitched up usually, but always, in a car deal.
