03 1.2 Intermittant heater problem - Kate81
I seem to have an intermittant problem with my heating in my volkswagen polo. When I put it anything past 22 degrees and then put it back to cool it stays hot which obviously is very uncomfortable when you are on a motorway and boiling alive!

However it doesnt do it all the time, could it be to do with the dial? Or is it going to be a more complex problem? My A/C seems to be working fine!

There are usually several cable-operated flap-valves in the heater box hidden by the dashboard which control where the air flows to and from. Sounds like the one that controls the hot/cold air has got stuck.

If you have A/C then the temperature flap isn't cable-controlled.

I had a similar fault on a Polo which I traced to the V68 temperature flap control motor, which is mounted on the passenger side of the blower box. The motor and/or the potentiometer were sticky, and so it would intermittently blow very hot air.

It's a bit tricky to get to but can be replaced without removing the dash if you have nimble enough fingers and a bit of patience! The part was about £80 from a main dealer.
