I am about to test drive a 1991 BMW 325i Sport - anyone got any advice on what to look out for, or what to be wary of?
Cheers

I presume it is an E30?
First of all the history, has it had a cambelt change?
Look for uneven tyre wear at back and front tracking could be out.
Also look for leaks, engines all leak a little at fan end but power steering leaks more of a problem.
Check the clutch if manual, is the fluid clean is it heavy to press and are there any leaks.
Is the resevoir for the cooling system full and is the liquid a decent colour, coolant needs changing once a year or else head gasket failure could be a problem.
The viscous clutch that operates the fan should kick in once the car gets to a certain temperature you will know it is working when you can hear it roar when you rev the engine up.
Other than that other things can go wrong but all tend to be minor and these cars are very easy to work on. Dash instruments can play up but these are very easily replaced in 1/2 hour.
Rust shouldn't be a problem unless it has had a prang.
My 89 325i convertible is bulletproof have done 10,000 miles in the last 4 months and very little has had to be done to it. It took me to Itlay and back 2200 miles in 10 days mostly at 100 mph and still gave me an average of 28 mpg.

Tom,
yes it is an E30 - 90k miles and full BMW service history from new - 1 owner. Has had a new cambelt and clutch. Absolutely mint and I think I'll be putting an offer in on it. Thanks for all your help guys.
