Where are you fella not seen you on the technical forum for over 12 months?
I have been in touch with him since he "retired", outside this forum. I could send him a seasonal email/greeting and ask him to rejoin us. He really was a top contributer to the technical forum, as you all recall. Comments re contacting him, please!

Yes, please tell him that he is greatly missed, and that many of us would be pleased if he would rejoin us.

There's been a lot mentioned about him here recently. Learned, measured kind of contributor, with intimate knowledge of modern turbo-diesels.
If it helps at all (and mods, if I'm the wrong by doing this, could you delete this post?) I am fairly sure that he posts on the Ilexa forums. I have no contact with him, but the style is unmistakeable. I now cruise the Ilexa forums and soak up what he writes, even though my diesel Mondy is now gone.
Here's a recent sample post:
"Mike
[You need "petrol" in the heading.]
Has it got the right oil in it? What are the symptoms?"
See what I mean?
I seem to remember that SL's beef was with some site updates that were affecting his computer; as we were both based in Scotland, I had always wanted to volunteer to take a drive to his to sort it (possibly) for him as I suspected I might be able to improve things for him (computers are my bag) but I dont think the HJ site has a PM facility, or at least I couldn't find it; but he departed before then.
A shame.

I miss his input too, new his stuff and talked technical stuff in a way less mechanically knowledgable folk like most of here i dare say could understand, without talking down to us.
Could be acidic in his unappreciation of many modern emission systems, always made me smile because you couldn't argue with his logic.
He'd have been a fine expert witness if we'd had any sort of political movement to oppose some of this ill thought out legislation currently causing all sorts of fuel and engine management problems.
Sorry slipped off into a parallel universe then where the eco stasi allowed any opposition.
edit..i imagine most of us would have liked to avail ourselves of his expertise if we had problems too by visiting his premises.

a very helpfull guy he certainly helped me
Encyclopaedic knowledge particularly of modern diesels, but also kind and helpful with it. Helped me out several times. I miss his contributions too.
Towards the end, I thought his posts became increasingly tetchy and were more questions than answers.
It's not my forum, but to me he's welcome back, but no more so than any other member who no longer visits.
As regards begging the guy to return - no chance.

Who's begging im not just asked were he was if he does not want to come back fair enough plenty more forums to go to.

I get the impression that he would be very welcome back here. Mods please advise me, either here or thru my email, whether you approve of me contacting him. I don't want to annoy him with an inappropriate or unwelcome invitation. I guess if he wanted to be here he knows where we are!

As a Pug diesel owner, I should be glad to renew contact with his regular inputs.
If contacted him a few times and I don't think he'll be back. He does visit occasionally but does not post. He's even mentioned a few things about posts to me before now and I've replied with that info (after checking with him)/

I,m one who asks lots of questions but couldn,t give many answers. Screwloose only gave answers, always knowlegable and helpful.
Fallen out, no doubt, as loose screws often do.
I started missing him some time back. His knowledge of Peugeot issues seemed encyclopedic. My enquiries resulted in the information that he was much occupied with other projects.
screwloose was very knowledgeable about Almera timing chains as well.
Diamond geezer!
And what about Aprilia? Very knowledgable as well.

Where are you fella not seen you on the technical forum for over 12 months?
FWIW last post 4th Dec 2008 according to forum search.
When I first started visiting this site, about 2 years ago, before I came out the shadows and started to post I remember reading his posts.
I was amazed that he would spend so much of his time patiently leading someone through solutions to their problems. Often these would be first time posters and I now know what some of those are like!
I found his posts addictive even if he was talking about things I could barely understand on cars I was never going to own.

>>>>>
>>>>>>>>more to the point his knowledge led you to the perfect solution of dont put your money into one of the cars he led you through because it was obviously a future money pit of drudgery
Back in early 2007 I think it was Screwloose that first broke the news that my new bargain car I had just bought had worn piston rings. Sure he also gave me some advice on a repair too, may have been when my TPS wiring loom got damaged.
Despite never having owned a diesel car in my life I used to read every post by screwloose.
He was a veritable cornucopia of knowledge and is much missed by myself, and I am sure many others.
?Towards the end, I thought his posts became increasingly tetchy?
I don?t know why he spent so much time trying to help people who clearly hadn?t a clue about the physics, mechanics or basic fault finding principles involved in locating complex faults. I suspect this is why he gave up posting.
I have spent many years fault finding electronic circuits and control mechanisms. Screwloose?s answers to questions and the fault finding logic he displayed, impressed me very much. I learnt a lot about how modern diesels worked from his answers!
I spent thirty years repairing consumer electronics, during which time I repaired the good and bad. You only see the faulty ones. My taste in manufacturers was coloured by the problems I could easily fix and those that were always a ?pain?. I suspect this will always be the way with repair men. You have to read his posts with this in mind.
I too have learnt a lot about modern Hdi engines through reading his posts. Having a technical background I am able to understand the frustration he must have felt trying to help the non technical types.
I miss his postings too!!
