98 1.25 Heater! - Phil C
I have my car set on hottest usually.

Basically my car blows hot air for roughly 10 seconds and then it will go cold again and stay cold.

Does anyone know what this could be? Thank you!

Phil.

Restricted water flow through the matrix, probably due to and air lock or blockage.

Is the engine coolant level ok - could be the heater matrix being left short of water when the engine begins to warm and the thermostat opens?.

The coolant should be fine. Had a full service in June. I thought it might of been an air blockage, how can i rectify this?

Perhaps, check your coolant level.

Leaks can happen you know.

this is what i posted on a different forum when i did one last year

take pipes off where they go into the heater matrix
undo the 4 philips screws holding the water tight cover on
pull the cover over the pipes (you need to do this as the matrix wont come out with it due to plastic mouldings in the heater box)
once cover off just pull matrix out

mine was absolutely full of metal crud which i assume is from the cast iron block of the engine, anyway a dammed good flushing and filling it up with boiling water to confirm it was still giving out heat (it was thankfully as i was quoted $56 plus the vat)
and reversal as they say

once this was done the heater was restored to factory heat
be aware you might need a new matrix though if it doesnt clean out due to say you living in a hardwater area

Could a scaled up matrix be de-scaled with something suitable, say vinegar, or would it leak like a sieve?

Just to add to bell boy's post, make sure you reseat that plastic cover perfectly, and ensure the rubber seal is sitting flat before you do so, or you will get very wet feet next time it rains. I found this out the hard way! :-(
