Top Cars for Bottom Dollar - CraigP
I'd like to buy something special, something worth preserving, but regularly trades for ~£1,000 (with a valid MOT).

I just need some more ideas, i recently did some refreshing of components on a BMW E38 728i and i'm in love with BMW engineering, but i'd like some more ideas for what to tackle next.

I've come up with the following list of cars to lookout for locally, but i'd like to widen the net a bit. Luxury or sports types seem to be the order of the day...

Luxury:
BMW E32 7 Series
Range Rover Classic
Jaguar XJ

Sports:
Nissan 300 zx

Any other recommendations?

W124 (or W123 but they are getting quite old now at 25-35 years old) Merc.

Audi 80 20V coupe quattro. Or an early A6 if you want to spend buttons, £200-300 will get you a FASH one owner example if you look around, few buttons more for quattro/estate.

I'd add the W126 SE models to Mapmaker's suggestions.

You could add the Citroën CX GTi Turbo to your list, under 'Perverse' :-)

A friend has one with 165k on the clock, and it's still silent, smooth and with everything in working order. These are engineered like nothing else I've ever seen.
