i have a puddle in the drivers footwell any ideas please

Possibly getting in through the pollen filter area. Check the cover is on properly. Also check the scuttle area isn't full of dead leaves which could be stopping drainage.

Thanks for that i had a look but seems fine and not blocked i now have a little moat in the passanger footwell on the same side(drivers side) would it be likley that i need a new seal round the top of the doors on that side?

Have you got a sunroof? If so, blocked drainage tubes are a favourite for this. Google for remedies. Alternatively, leaking heater matrix can cause it. Quite a big job, the whole dash has to come out, even bigger if an aircon model.

Check the bottom of the door when its been raining, either the seal could be leaking or it could be running down the inside of the panel, especially if its been off at sometime and the waterproof membrane has not been replaced/repaired.
