I have a 51 plate A3 TDI. Over the last few days the indicators have suddently become intermittent, that is to say when you turn them on they either don't come on at all or they initally function and then either die or become irregular. The hazard warning lights work fine and, having read a similar post elsewhere, there is no dampness/water in the passenger footwell. Any ideas?

VAG use the wrong lubricant and contact pressures in the column indicator switches which causes all sorts of problems from intermittency to swarf in the switch causing spurious flasher operation.
For a first go, put an old towel under the switch and blast it with a good dose of Servisol super 10 switch cleaner whilst operationg the switch. If this is not effective, change the switch - available from GSF.

Somewhat belatedly I thought it might help to report back that a new switch solved the problem.
