Yet another one bites the dust.

I think the figure '21' in the story, referring to his age, has a lot to do with it.

I think the figure '21' in the story referring to his age has a lot to do with it.
Probably, but the figure is only one of two crucial bits of info. It seems to me that the two pertinent factors are the figure 21 and the adjective "his". Young women don't out their cars in ditches at anything like the same frequency, which is why they cost less to insure.
It's a pity that with the way society is now organised, young men don't have a wider choice of outlets for their daredevil instincts than pressing a pedal in a sound-insulated metal box. (Some say that sport should provide that outlet, but the highly-regulated commercial ball-games don't seem to me to be a likely way of satisfying any thrill-seeker)

Thats because the pay on the cosmetics counter at boots means they cant afford a car. At 21 they should be barefoot, pregnant and chained to the kitchen sink anyway.

At least those who buy Astons and Bentleys are helping to keep the British motor industry going.
These manufacturers would do well to do what I believe Porsche does - offer a day's tuition for new buyers on what their car can (and more importantly can't) do.

All that damage and only travelling at the legal speed limit. Not very well made are they ;-) Glad I don't have one.
|

Probably was a corner (assume not a joke on Bilboman's post) but most cars go round bends/corners fine.

Wonder if he'll be given a penalty?
|

Looking at the photos most of the damage was offside..
|
|
The right back's not looking to good and it not to healthy up front either ...
|

Yeah, you have to think stuffing it in a ditch is a bit of an own goal.
|

Yeah but was it over the line? Sick as a parrot I reckon ...

Maybe the local councils where these intellectual giants live should put little flags on corners.

Reckon he is going to need help with his defence!

He'll need to work extra time to pay the premium increase.

Maybe he can get a job at a local "corner shop"

The right wing could have been stronger ...

They are people of limited intellect who are grossly overpaid for kicking a leather, air filled, ball into a net and hugging each other in an unmanly way when aforesaid ball actually enters the net.
This odd pastime is known as "Association Football"

sounds like a "rugger" man speaking

Are they still made of leather? I think not.

I wonder if his insurance company will 'pitch in' for the replacement?

They might think its an own goal.

He must be gu' ' ed.
Aston Vantage....Volante....will the next one be Villa? Perhaps not.
|
Maybe it would be appropriate if any witnesses to the accident used the "footballer's tense" to describe it in their statements to the authorities.
"He's travelling down the A1 . . . he's come to the corner . . . he's tried to turn, then he's spun round . . . then he's veered off the road completely and he's hit a tree"
(Where DOES that mode of speech come from? I don't speak the Queen's English, but I'm not, like, you know that bad, innit?)

What is it with footballers?
Too much money....all paid for by the fans.....me I hate all things football, so I can at least rest easy in the knowledge that I have in no way contributed to their Aston Martin or their general wealth.
|
>>......all paid for by the fans..>>
A lot is met by sponsorship rather than the fans, especially at the smaller clubs.
|
A lot is met by sponsorship rather than the fans especially at the smaller clubs.
It always comes back to the fans in the end. The sponsors hope that the fans will see the products/services and then use or buy them. All advertising has to be paid for (sponsorship is a form of advertising )..the costs of which are ultimately reflected in the price of products and services.
The footballers makes lots of money, because people (predominantly their fans) support them and the companies profit on the back of this.

I think the owner of Ascari put it best:
"A person's driving ability does not increase in line with the size of their wallet".
These numpties may have money oozing out of their ever orifice, but that doesn't mean they can drive any better than you or I. I bet a fair few of them already have convictions for various motoring offences (at least those where Mr Loophole didn't manage to find sowe way out for them).
|
Got to say I think most of these comments are a bit harsh. So a young man crashes his car. Happens all the time, just the majority of them don't make it into the papers.
I don't think its fair to call them idiots or numpties either. Bendtner for example can speak English, Danish and French. So its unfair to make such ignorant statements about these guys, and frankly reeks of jealousy.
In any event the level of dedication required to get to that level in football or indeed any sport requires a strength of character and determination that few of us possess.
|

Yes, but the big difference in these footballing cases is that the "offender" will be able to buy a replacement with half of next weeks wages. They can afford to run and wreck these things because to them them, the relative cost is the same as a normal person buying a bar of chocolate.
An Aston for me is a bit more than a year's wages; for them a Ferrari is their weekly spending money.

So you're saying it is jealousy?
|
|
I think its more a sense of proportion than jealousy. For another example, some of the bonuses paid to bankers in a year are more than a working man will earn in a lifetime. The bonus is out of proportion to normal life.
|
The bonus is out of proportion to normal life.
That might well be true, but again that doesn't make them idiots or numpties (from earlier posts).
|
>>.. but again that doesn't make them idiots or numpties..>>
Well not the majority of them, but the "idiots and numpties" (along with some really bad eggs) have always attracted wide publicity and are well known.
|
My original comment was indeed referring to the proportions. What I was getting at is that, to a Premiership footballer, writing off a £60,000 car is not going to make any significant difference to their financial situation. Next week they will earn another £60,000 so they can go out and buy another expensive car.
If I wrote off a £60,000 car, I wouldn't be able to go out and buy another one with my next week's wages
|
No but that does not stop every other young man trying to write off his car, as most of them do. The bit about affordability is not a factor.
|
>>..Next week they will earn another £60,000 so they can go out and buy another expensive car.>>
The average wage paid to a Premiership player is £20,000 a week (still a lot I know), but it's only a comparative handful that earn the really big money.
They also have to pay tax and commission to their agents.
Not forgetting, of course, the spending habits of the WAGs...:-)
|
They also have to pay tax and commission to their agents.
Their pay always used to be quoted as the amount they actually received - it was said footballers couldn't handle tax etc so the clubs took care of that (as any other employer would, I guess).
I suppose that's all changed now and they're probably all limited companies, hiring out their services to various people.
Whatever, even if the average player "only" clears £10K/week, it's still a decent amount of money.
The nearly top guys must surely lease their cars (the very top ones getting them free - isn't that galling?) so even a lease cost of a couple of £K per month isn't going to make much of dent in a couple of hundred £K.
|
>>Their pay always used to be quoted as the amount they actually received>>
That's what some foreign players believed, until they found out the real facts.
In fact at least one Russian player re-negotiated his contract with a top Premiership club in order to ensure his "take home" pay was the amount being bandied around...:-)
|
My original comment was indeed referring to the proportions.
...which is fair enough. What nick was pointing out I believe is that just because someone is lucky enough to be in such a position does not automatically make them an idiot etc. (even though they might be). That's what some of the earlier posts appear to imply.

I was watching a programme on one of the cable channels the other day which summed up the issue quite well for me... the No1 car was the Porche 911 and one of the contributors said that the problem Porche had was that the car has been "tainted" by its popularity amongst Thatcher's Yuppies of the 80s who were able to afford them but didn't know how to handle them... hence many were crashed... exactly the same problem as most footballers have...

You don't want him to drive a fiesta do you ?,good luck to him.
On the money issue its the 10%approx of a transfer fee a player receives that keeps
the wife happy,one recently 22million.
|
>>,one recently 22million>>
Well Cristiano Ronaldo is the world's most expensive footballer at £80m, so that figure of 22m doesn't stack up...:-)
|
They don't know how to do it these days. Lady Docker used to have gold plate instead of chrome. One of her daimlers was covered all over with little gold stars. Now that was class.
Love the thought of pink leather upholstery though.
I wonder what he'd done to her to make him feel so generous?

or vice versa.....:-)

22 million is the transfer fee,so 10% of 22m is.....

10% of 22m is.....
An absolutely ridiculous amount of money to throw at anyone.
