hi guys, indicators working but when its not indicating the hazard switch chatters please help mee eeeeee

Daughter's 01 Lupo suffered from intermittant fast clicking when not indicating. Wasn't too bad when I saw it, but then "smoke came from the steering wheel". VW garage first said Hazard/indicator flasher unit needed replacing, then realised indicator stalk had burnt out also, so if your's is a similar problem, I would recommend you get the flasher unit changed asap...

The column switch is full of metal swarf from the contacts - a common VAG fault. Put an old towel under the switch and blast it with half a spray can of switch cleaner/lube (Servisol Super 10 is good) whilst working the switch.
This usually works - if not, replace switch. The flasher unit will not be faulty if the indicators operate correctly.
