03 2.0 £550 to remove and replace TDCi injector?!? - Red Baron
I had a feeling that it would be expensive when the glowplug light started flashing...maybe 400, but not £550.
£250 for the injector (No 2 is beyond calibration limit)
£xx for the diagnostics
£xx for the steel pipe (pump to injector).

Add labour, add VAT.

It would have been £1400 to change all 4 injectors.

I just told them to fix it.

Question: Would it have been significantly cheaper elsewhere?

Based on prices like that, you would think a car like yours would cost around £100,000 to build, amazing how they manufacture them so cheaply! ;-)

Perhaps this is how Ford recoup the cost of selling Mundeos so cheaply in the first place?
You would always get a better deal at a non franchaise place, but go for a diesel specialist - where the taxi drivers go.

Hi
used to work in a Ford dalership - you can get them a little cheaper done at the Diesel specialists but you may find the others start to play up fairly quickly one after another - the injectors used to last approx 60k -- so look to move your car on after this one gets fixed !! the injectors used to cost £380 to buy 12 months ago so they have reduced them a little

Good look

I had one injector recalibrated at about 65k (FOC Ford dealer goodwill), now 139k no further problems.

EDIT: Touch wood!

There you have it -- take your chances or move it on we calibrated loads of injectors but always came back shortly after with further problems - maybe we saw only the bad onesthat no-one else could cure by calibrations and customers never told us that they had been looked at -- 50/50 chance - you know your own finances so you need to decide

good luck

232burn, can you explain why an injector should need recalibrating ?
What is it that goes out of calibration, is it the ECU ?
Indeed is it the actual injector that is calibrated in this process or is it the ECU ?

I think that its mechanical wear that causes the calibration errors but they can be electronically adjusted to match the others.

Try an independent diesel injection specialist, I believe that if they have the right equipment they can recondition these injectors and supply them much more cheaply than your dealer.

The car has done nearly 90k miles, so if 60k is the average, then things are going well. The Ford dealer is ½ mile from my house and I needed the car.

Yes, I gather that the very high injection pressures wear the metal away until the bore of the nozzle is too large for electronic calibration to correct with respect to the other injectors.

Someone I know had all injectors changed on his Transit a few months ago for £1200.

I am very wary of reconditioned injectors. They aren't that much cheaper and will probably not last 90k miles either. Looks like injectors are simply a consumable on these cars.
