Could anyone give me an idea of the price you would expect to pay to spray three doors on an R reg Pug 106 - presently red, should be mustard? And where one should look for the cheapest option?

Find a local dealer that sells that sort of car and ask him for recomendations.
Should be able to get it down below £250 if you want a finish commensurate with the rest of an R reg motor.

Thanks, Spikey. Will do a bit of research tomorrow with your figure in mind.

a good painter wont spray 3 doors because you cant get 10 year old paint to come out of a gun im afraid
it therefore needs blending down both sides to make a half decent job
price dependant on many things, area being first, how busy shop is second, how faded car is 3rd
however i agree the £250 if a decent independant bodyshop is found

On a ten-year-old car, would anyone really care about whether it was a perfect match?

Yes, very much so. Mine's 10 years old and every now and again I have to spray the bumpers, because other people seem to think driving in to them is a reasonable part of their parking options.... and i'm not talking about a light occasional touch either.
There's no way i'd want a mismatch in colour, it would catch my eye every time and irritate me to the nth degree. Same would go for a panel repair.

NW, in this case, I agree with you. The girl who owns the car also does not mind, having her head screwed on the right way, would rather keep any pennies she has for mechanical faults in the future.
Unfortunately her father and stepmother think it should be done - but don't have any intention of paying for it. They have found a 'cheap' quote for £400, as apparently it would cost £2000 for a total re-spray, and are now giving her grief for not wanting to spent money she does not have!
* I can see WPs point of view, but his is not a 'first car' runaround.

Time to get a green n/s wing, blue o/s wing and a silver bonnet from the scrap yard then, or colour the doors in with a permanent marker!
Her folks sound barmey, nagging her to spend money she dosn't have on cosmetic aspects of her car, my attitude would be you have a problem with it you pay to fix it.
But if she is going to get it done to keep the peace then it could be cheaper to replace them with ones from the scrapyard if you can find the right colour and sell the ones you take off on ebay. Having the parents driveway looking like a scrap yard for a couple of weeks could add to the fun!

Sell the car and buy another - the re-spray won't increase the value by as much as it costs, so it's dead money.
