Just 14 £60 fixed penalty notices were issued in 2008 with six issued so far this year - according to BBC London on the teletex pages.
The chances of getting caught are so remote that minicab company Addison Lee have instructed its drivers to use the bus lane.
I have never seen a bus using the bus lane sit was launched by lovable, Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott in 1999.

A damn silly bus lane it is too, replacing as it does the overtaking lane instead of being where all other bus lanes are... I have seen buses in it, but of course it's empty most of the time. It slows down the London-bound traffic well before the overhead section which people used to shoot through before cameras.

I have seen buses in it >>
Have you honestly seen "a bus" in it? Because I never have. Taxis, motorbikes, coaches and now, of course, we can look forward to seeing Addison Lee people carriers in the bus lane.

I think I heard Terry Wogan saying he saw TWO buses in it this morning - typical, you don't see one for ages, then......................

It's a similar tale with our local 2+ lane. It's so rarely enforced it is widely ignored.

If there is a lot of illegal use of this ill conceved bus lane, looks like someone has missed a revenue raising opportunity, an ANPR camera would pay for itself in no time.
|
Even an ANPR system needs an expensive human back up team to operate.
Once this is in place no one uses the lane and the income dries up.

|
There must be a camera outfit already in place in the area, speed, parking, bus lanes, all have camera enforcement, one more camera wont tie up more staff.
|
the only time ive ever seen the lane used was by government ministers in the back of their Jags

Can ministerial drivers put their fines on their passengers expenses? :-)
