Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 05 1.3 Creaking steering

05 1.3 Creaking steering - rockchick666
Can anyone help please I have a yaris 1.3 (05 plate) which "creaks" when I steer it (mainly when I turn left) it feels like something needs greasing but I am worried it might something more sinister ! Any ideas ?

Does this happen as you near full lock? If so, my wife's Yaris (1.3, 56 plate) had just this problem. The safe handling of the vehicle was never a problem, even at motorway speeds. We did get black looks from pedestrians when parking in supermarket car parks and the like, the "creak" was so loud.
The service dept at the local dealer's said it was "a problem with the tops of the front shock absorbers". It took them two goes to fix the problem, but they did fix it, and under the warranty too.

It seems any slight movement causes the creaking but more apparent when you turn left for some reason.
I will investigate the shocks . Thanks
