01 1.9D Smoking tyre - carlover

Hello,
My 1.9D Xsara car-van's back right tyre is rubbing off the side of the car body.
With a car trailer on the back without any weight the tyre smokes badly.
Rang a mechanic who told me that the bearing is gone and that it goes in all of the xsara car-vans. Thing is there is only 60k miles on the van and it never got abused pulling heavy weight.

He also told me that I might be better off buying a 2nd hand axle instead of buying a new kit to fix the problem.

Just wondering can anyone tell me what is the best thing to do?

Am I better off buying the kit?

I thought it would be possible to buy a bearing and fit it just like a normal car...but is there something special about this model? (think its a MCPherson strut in the back of these)

Any info appreciated....
