I currently have a personalized number plate on my car. I am wanting to put this on retention and get a new plate for my car. Does anyone know how i would go about this, how much it would cost and how long the process takes?
made make/model non specific.

when you put your number on retention , the dvla will issue you with a new number plate and tax disk , also a letter to take to Haffords or a motor factors to get the new plates made.
I have not done a retention , but have transfered numbers , my local DVLA are quite good , this takes less than a week.
you must change the plates "as soon as possibe" and send back the old tax disk , WATCH your insurance , in fact TELL your insurance ASAP
Don't use derogatory terms to describe Halfords - it'll trip the swear filter

I have not done a retention yet, although I will be doing in a couple of weeks when I put the C3 up for sale.
I have done straight transfers on SWMBO's number 3 times and each time the DVLA have been brilliant.
They also give you the original number back now, Very handy as I always keep the old plates.
